You have a website or a Blog, now how do you get site visitors? How do you let the world know you're on the Internet and open for business? This article will give you the detailed steps in getting targeted traffic to your site. Traffic is one thing but targeted traffic is what you want because these are the people who will make purchases. If you have lots of friends on the different Social Networks, maybe 10% of those friends will visit your site, this is more arbitrary traffic and not targeted traffic. Targeted traffic comes from search engines when people are actually searching for your product or something you sell or promote from your website.

  1. Step 1

Submit your site to the top search engines which are Google, Yahoo, and Bing. You can submit your site at least once every 3 months. Use Meta Tags (descriptive words) and keywords in the "Heading" or "Head" section of your website. If you want to save time and effort just do a search on a company that happens to be in the same line of work. One that ranks high in search rankings and copy their keywords and tags. This is not illegal or unscrupulous because keywords are just basic words related to a particular topic, or in this case, related to a website. For example, "exercise" would be a keyword you would use if you have a bodybuilding or weight-loss website. No one has a patent on words like "exercise, fitness, or health," therefore you are free to use these keywords.

  2. Step 2

Find related forums and create a profile. Socialize and communicate with the other members of the forum. This is another way of getting targeted traffic to your website because you are interacting with people who are in a similar line of work. Most forums will allow you to add a "signature" to all your post. Your signature will link back to your profile or it may link directly back to your website. Either way, you are generating traffic to your site.

  3. Step 3

Use the top 3 social networks to get traffic to your site. That would be Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter. Spend at least an hour per day tweaking your profile and adding friends on the three networks. The best way to build up a nice following is to be active by commenting, blogging, and just participating with your fellow members.

  4. Step 4

Write articles related to your website or blog. You basically want to write articles all over the Internet. You can write independently, write for one of the many writing sites on the Internet, or you can write articles and sell them. There are a plethora of websites that will pay you for your articles and usually you can link to your site from the article. Writing amounts to a legitimate form of viral marketing.
